Given a brief history of the Rathskeller, its name was remained until late 1970’s or early 1980’s. The name was changed to the Abbey which did not last. It went back to the name of the Rathskeller.
The students ran the Rathskeller only from 1970 until either 1997 or 1998. Liability issues under the health code required it became the responsibility of the food-services contractor working with the University.
Due to the demolition of the SUB (Student Union Building), the Rathskeller was then relocated to the I. King Jordan Student Academic Center.
The Rathskellar is now under Gallaudet University’s meal plan along with the Plaza Dining Hall and MarketPlace.
