Hello.  Hello to the members of Class of ’71

My name is Connie Greenlee Gough.

Ok, I would like to explain about two short stories happening at Gallaudet.

While I was in sophomore year, we all girls could get off the campus with the understanding that we must enter the dormitory on time and sign in the book.  That was the rule for us girls.

Anyway, one Saturday night I entered the dormitory on time and then I talked with my date through the window.  As we chatted, I glanced up and saw the senior girl checking the sign-in book.  Oh, I realized that I entered the dormitory at 12:25 p.m.  It was perfect but I forgot to sign in.  I approached the senior girl and said, “Hello, I had entered the dormitory at 12:25 but I forgot to sign in.”  She said it did not matter.  I told her that I honestly entered the dormitory (at 12:25). I just forgot to sign in.  She then circled my name and said I was 5 minutes late.  I looked at her with a dirty look and became disgusted with her.

The second story:  When I was senior, I really enjoyed attending to see the plays, both in the fall and spring.  That fall, the play was called Becket.  It was about the relationship between the king and the bishop, I think.  I do not remember what was happening all the way until the last part.  I was impressed because they put Becket to death by beheading him.  A man marched in carrying an axe with a massive armor and helmet.  I was impressed by his large size and it was embedded in my mind.  I had never forgotten that part.

Oh, what is the point of both stories?  Ok, twenty-five years later that senior girl became my sister-in-law!  (Chuckle)

And the huge man carrying the axe – he was the executioner himself.  He became my husband! (Chuckle)

I never dreamed that would happen!  I never dreamed …interesting!

So anyway, I am looking forward to going to the virtual reunion through zoom and I am looking forward to getting the memory book soon.

Have a wonderful day.  So long.  Salute (pronouncing so long.)
